High Definition Film Transfers To Digital Media
Our company began transferring film to video in 1981. We have transferred film for hundreds of customers all across the U.S. and Canada, including
dozens of jobs here on eBay, until a few years ago when elderly family health issues caused us to temporarily discontinue our listings. We are back now, with new listings and brand new state of the art telecine transfer equipment. But still with the same attention to detail, and commitment to customer service and satisfaction.
We care for our customers treasured films as if they are our own.
HERE ARE SOME RECENT TRANSFER FEEDBACKS:

Our Film Transfer Systems
We use world famous Tobin Cinema Systems professional telecine transfer equipment. It is simply the best available on the planet, and is used in most major transfer houses around the world. Our newest Tobin system combines the best of all other systems. High definition, frame by frame, and direct transfer. No screen, no mirrors, no “aerial image”, no rolling shutter effect, and absolutely no flicker whatsoever.
The High Definition camera is triggered by the next film frame coming into position, after the rotating shutter opens so the camera doesn’t see it. There is no chance of blending film frames together. There is no interference from the original shutter to require a particular running speed, and no chance of flicker or shutter bar.
After recording, we use special software to specify the AVI header to assign 16 FPS ( for regular-8 ) or 18 FPS ( for super-8 ) speed so the file will play back on a computer at the original film camera’s running speed.
Then our master video editing system is used to control the final cropping and scaling of the image file and convert it to the desired Blu-Ray or DVD disc format, or video file. We insert pillar box bars, or wallpaper, on the left and right to expand the original 4:3 ( 12:9 ) film image to the 16:9 ratio. We do not crop off any part of the original 4:3 image to “fill” the 16:9 screen.
Competitors Film Transfer Systems
Some of our competitors use equipment that they claim is superior to everyone else. At one time perhaps. It just simply isn’t anymore. One even offers a false statement as “proof “. Another popular system incorporates a little “High Def” consumer video camera with a telecine projector. It is probably a little better than shooting off a wall or glass screen, but there is no way this “direct transfer” process does not produce some degree of shutter roll. And again,
we do not crop off any part of the original 4:3 image to “fill” the 16:9 screen, as some others do.
Another company that claims it should take a long time to “scan” each frame, is making an excuse for having a lot slower process, and charging much higher rates. In any event, we have been at this for over 30 years. We have seen the evolution of film transfer systems, and are very excited to offer the latest in telecine transfer technology to date. Additionally, our rates are right in the middle of the pack. We are confident ALL of our customers will be 100% satisfied with our services.
Our
“B” Option
Process
As soon as we receive your sequentially numbered films, whether they be 50′ reels or any mix of larger reels, we contact you to acknowledge they have arrived. We then begin to clean them up and splice them for transfer. For this option, 50′ reels will be cleaned and transferred individually.
This “B” option takes more time, but is for customers that want the films returned on the original 50′ reels in the small square boxes or round clip-on cases, rather than the
400′ reels and storage cases
of our “A” option. We offer this rate for an Ultra High Quality transfer and the added handling time. For customers that wish to have their films spliced to 400′ reels and transferred at a lower cost,
please see other options here.
We then direct transfer your film to an AVI file. That file is then processed using special software to render a perfect flicker free playback at exactly the correct speed. The rendered file is recoded to any number of codec containers including AVI, MP4, Quicktime. The file(s) are output to either DVD, SD card or USB flash drive.
Pricing
Cost is 13 cents per foot for both Regular 8mm and Super 8 film. So a 50′ film = $6.50. To figure the cost of larger reels use this reference:
3″ = 50′ 4″ = 100′ 5″ = 200′ 6″ = 300′ 7″ = 400
To Order
From this listing each $6.50 unit equals 50′ of film or “other charges”.(See below) Simply total up all of the reels by feet size, and then divide by 50. That will tell you how many “units” from this listing you should order. For instance, if your total is 1350′, you would order 27 “units” and the cost would be $175.50.
Other Charges
Additional splices are $2.50 ea. or 1/2 “unit”
These are “added on” charges because usually customers are unaware of additional breaks or bad splices that come apart during cleaning or transfer and need to be re-done. We usually only add these on if we have an excessive number of breaks to fix.
Blank media for outputting files can be provided by the customer, or calculated as follows;
DVDs = $6.50 ea. or 1 “unit”
16G Flash Drive = $13.00 ea. or 2 “units”
8G SD Card = $13.99 ea. or 2 “units”
Return Shipping is a flat fee of $10.00.
We use USPS Media Mail with a “tracking number” and “signature confirmation” to return films.
MINIMUM ORDER IS $30
Other Information
We provide the transferred files on a playable DVD, flash drive or SD card. The files are your choice of either MPEG-4, or Quicktime. They can be played on a computer and displayed on a TV monitor the same as a DVD using Windows Media Player or other programs. From this listing, we do not “edit” finished programs together, and/or add music. This can be done by someone else easy enough, but it is too time consuming for us in this offering. Adding music is a personal thing too, as well as a legal thing. We suggest a friend or family member that is computer savvy and has the time to put the personal family touch into an edited program.
Turn-Around time is usually just a few days. Holiday season can be longer, but we still try to get everything done within 7 days.
We also archive a copy of your files on a hard drive in case something bad ever happens to your copy(s)
If you have any questions, email us here on eBay.
CUSTOMER AGREEMENT TO TERMS BY PURCHASE
I am requesting that the above work be performed. I certify that no copyright material is supplied, or that I have received and am including written permission to copy same. I also authorize the company to use materials for demonstration and/or display.
I understand that damaged original material will generate additional charges whether or not a usable copy is produced. I take full responsibility for choosing the transfer order of the films. I agree that “the company” through care will try to minimize the inherent risk of running old shrunken, scratched, warped, crumpled and brittle tapes or those with splices. The company and associates can not be held responsible for circumstances beyond their control, such as natural disaster or war, theft or vandalism by third parties, or for damage or loss in transit. The company will exert its best efforts to produce a good quality product, subject to the limitations of the transfer process, and the nature and condition of the material submitted. In case of complaint, the company will evaluate the order and re-do it if it can be improved, and the customer agrees that this is the only available remedy.
What To Do Now
Preview your films. If you can’t, it’s okay, just number them in the order you think they should go. If they are out of proper sequence, that’s okay too, they can be shuffled around after the transfer process. Next, calculate the total feet, divide by 50 to get the number of units, add up the “other charges” as units, then
order from the listing. Remember, there may still be a few small adjustments made. If we find you paid too much, you will be refunded whatever the amount turns out to be. If we underestimated, you may be asked to pay just a little more. Usually the estimate is within a few dollars and we do not quibble about amounts less than $5. Once everything is in order, pack your films carefully into a sturdy box and send them via Priority Mail to;
